At ShockTown’s YES Community Program, Inc., we are seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to join our team. Important roles such as Volunteers, Lead Volunteers, Coach / Mentors or Special Skills you can offer. You will assist in creating a safe, positive, and engaging environment for youth participants, helping them grow and thrive through sports and leadership development.

what you'll do

Various key responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating Sports Activities: Plan and lead sports sessions focused on teamwork, leadership, and skill-building while ensuring age-appropriate instruction. (Coaching / Mentor)
  • Supervision: Monitor participants during activities and breaks, ensuring safety, behavior management, and positive interaction among participants.
  • Fostering a Positive Environment: Encourage teamwork, leadership, and personal growth among the youth, supporting the overall goals of the program.
  • Tracking Participant Progress: Help the Coach/Mentor in observing and documenting participant development, providing feedback to support their growth.
  • Adapting as Needed: Step in to help with activities or provide additional support to participants when needed.
  • Maintaining Certifications and Background Check Compliance: Stay current with CPR/First Aid certification, complete child safety and abuse prevention training, and pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Special Skills: Expertise in marketing, graphic design, event planning, legal, finance and more.

Primary leaders of daily activities, guiding and mentoring participants through structured sports and educational sessions.

As a coach or mentor, you play a critical role in shaping the lives of our youth. To ensure a positive, safe, and impactful environment, all coaches and mentors are expected to uphold the following Code of Conduct:

1. Respect and Professionalism
  • Treat all participants, families, staff, and fellow coaches with dignity, fairness, and respect.
  • Foster an environment where diversity is valued and inclusivity is prioritized.
  • Use constructive language and maintain a positive tone in all interactions.
2. Leadership and Role Modeling
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating integrity, responsibility, and good sportsmanship.
  • Encourage teamwork, perseverance, and self-confidence in participants.
  • Set clear expectations and lead by example both on and off the field.
3. Safety and Well-being
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all participants.
  • Supervise participants during all activities and transitions, maintaining appropriate boundaries at all times.
  • Report any incidents, injuries, or safety concerns to the Sports Field Coordinator immediately.
  • Refrain from any behavior that could endanger the health or safety of participants.
4. Skill Development and Encouragement
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment where every child has the opportunity to grow.
  • Celebrate effort and improvement over winning or individual achievement.
  • Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of participants.
5. Commitment to Ethics and Integrity
  • Act in the best interest of the youth and the organization at all times.
  • Avoid favoritism or any conduct that could be perceived as unfair or biased.
  • Never engage in any form of harassment, bullying, or inappropriate relationships with participants.
6. Prohibited Conduct Coaches and mentors must not:
  • Use profanity, demeaning language, or physical discipline.
  • Consume or be under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or any illegal substances while representing the organization.
  • Engage in activities that violate local, state, or federal laws.
7. Confidentiality and Privacy
  • Safeguard the personal information and privacy of all participants and their families.
  • Do not share photos, videos, or details about participants without prior written consent.
8. Professional Development
  • Participate in required training sessions and maintain certifications, such as CPR/First Aid and child safety training.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance coaching and mentoring skills.
9. Commitment to the Mission
  • Promote the mission of ShockTown’s YES Community Program by encouraging leadership, teamwork, and self-confidence in youth.
  • Support and collaborate with fellow coaches, mentors, and staff to achieve program goals.
